Jurgen Klopp might wait until the summer to spend on new recruitments but it seems work is still underway to convince one of his top targets to come to Anfield.
Leon Goretzka, whose contract with Schalke is about to expire soon, revealed last month that he would make a decision on his future in January.
Rumours recently suggested that the Germany international has decided to snub a move to the Premier League in favour of a switch to Bayern Munich, but Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now revealed that the Bundesliga champions are still waiting on the midfielder’s decision.
“You only have an agreement, when the contract is signed and the player passed the medical tests,” Rummenigge told Sky Sports.
“We are not that far yet. Now the player has to decide, I heard the decision will be made within the next days, so before the end of January.
“And of course it would be very nice if he decides to join Bayern Munich.”
Goretzka has been in and out of the Schalke team this season due to a recurring leg injury and has made just 11 Bundesliga appearances scoring 4 goals in the process.
Similar to Goretzka, Emre Can is apparently also undecided on his Liverpool future and is yet to sign a new contract with the Reds with Juventus waiting to pounce on any possible opportunity to sign the midfielder on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old, alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum, looked in total control of the midfield against Manchester City on Sunday and showed why Klopp is so eager to keep him at Anfield despite an inconsistent season so far.
