There is still no news of Emre Can signing a new deal with Liverpool and with just one year left on his contract, fears have grown lately that the Reds could lose one of the most promising young midfielders in the world for free next season.
It was reported recently that the Reds won’t sell Can this summer even if he enters the new season without putting pen to a new deal. While Juventus have been strongly chasing Can this summer, the latest report regarding his future suggests that the midfielder could be close to extending his Merseyside stay.
According to Tuttosport, Juventus have given up the chase for the 23-year-old and are now looking at long-term target Blaise Matuidi as an alternative. The report claims that Matuidi is a far cheaper option than the Germany international and the Turin giants have strong relations with the Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola.
Can’s market value must have grown immensely in the last few months as the former Bayern Munich man had a commanding second half of the last season with the Reds and also won the Confederations Cup with Germany recently.
If the report is to be believed, this could also mean that Liverpool may have already agreed to new contract terms with the German and Juventus’s switch of focus could be the result of this possible new development.
Emre Can insisted recently that the contract issue has nothing to do with money which strongly suggests that his doubts regarding his starting place could be the main reason for the delay.
Liverpool have been strongly chasing RB Leipzig’s dynamic midfielder Naby Keita and if the Reds successfully sign the midfield maestro this summer, the competition will increase more in an already congested central midfield area.
Do you think Emre Can deserves a regular starting role next season?
