Liverpool may have slapped a £30m valuation on out-of-favour centre-back Mamadou Sakho but Crystal palace are apparently looking confident in negotiating the price down.
Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted that Sakho’s contribution during his recent short spell with the Eagles has been invaluable and the club will try to negotiate with Liverpool in order to make the move permanent this summer.
“I’m sure there’ll be a negotiation on that. If we can make it work, of course, we’d like to, I’m not going to try and be coy or clever on that,” Parish said.
“He’s a very good player and I think he likes being with us. We like him. Let’s hope we can do it.”
Sakho has been exceptional for Crystal Palace since joining them and has helped them avoid relegation this season. Interestingly, the France international, who joined the Eagles on loan in January, has been nominated for Palace’s Player of the Season award despite playing just 8 games for them.
After suffering a knee injury against Tottenham last month, it was feared that the 27-year-old could be out for a long spell but eventually the scans revealed that the Frenchman has only strained knee ligaments and will be back after this season.
While Serie A giants Roma are also said to be very keen on signing Sakho, Crystal Palace spent over £30m for Christian Benteke last summer and the Eagles could again spend big on a Liverpool player who has been instrumental in saving them from getting relegated this season.
