Celtic are reportedly the newest club interested in signing Lucas Leiva with the midfielder’s Anfield career coming to an end.
According to the Daily Record, former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to reunite with Lucas who will be a free agent this summer.
The 30-year-old, who has been a loyal servant for the Reds for last 10 years, is also attracting interest from Premier League debutants Brighton & Hove Albion. Chris Hughton is looking for players with Premier League experience to cement his side’s top-flight status beyond the next season.
Notably, Liverpool are also being linked with Celtic’s highly-rated teenager Kieran Tierney. A boyhood Celtic fan, the left-back is destined to be a future star and is also attracting interest from Arsenal.
Liverpool’s left-back problems are well documented and given Tierney’s huge potential, the Reds could do worse than offering a player (Lucas) plus cash deal for the youngster.
The Brazilian was on the verge of leaving for Turkish giants Galatasaray last summer but Jurgen Klopp persuaded him to stay for one more season with the Reds as a defence cover. The Turks’ interest has now reportedly cooled off due to Lucas’s high wage demands.
Do you think Liverpool should offer a new contract to Lucas as his huge experience in the Premier League could be handy for new players coming in this summer?
