Liverpool’s defence has finally started showing the much-needed consistency, something which was lacking all this season until now.
Despite a strong showing by the defensive duo of Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren lately, injuries have forced regular changes in the backline this season, which has probably cost us another title challenge.
While Liverpool have another centre-back option in the form of Mamadou Sakho, Jurgen Klopp is apparently not the biggest fan of the Frenchman, despite his recent heroics with Crystal Palace. Sakho’s much-publicised attitude problems will force the German to sign another centre-half in the summer and the Reds are said to be preparing to sell the former PSG man, to make space for a new addition.
The 27-year-old, who is currently valued at around £30m by Liverpool, has been inspirational for the Eagles since joining them on loan in January.
Palace boss Sam Allardyce has been particularly impressed with Sakho’s leadership skills, both on and off the field.
“I think that his leadership as well as his ability has been a massive plus for me. I didn’t know he had such great leadership qualities in the dressing room, at the training ground and on the pitch,” Allardyce said.
Palace are hoping to sign Sakho on a permanent deal but the manager thinks that it wont be easy for them to keep the defender at Selhurst Park beyond this season.
Allardyce added: “In the end, it will be very difficult but that will be down to the club, Mama and Liverpool to discuss at the end of the season.”
Crystal Palace have kept four clean sheets and lost just one of the seven Premier League games Sakho has played in for them.
It is inevitable that the France international will be sold in the summer and the Reds have already line-up Virgil van Dijk as his replacement and the number one target for the summer.
Do you think Sakho should get another chance at Liverpool, given his desire to stay with the Reds?
