After being heavily linked with Stefan de Vrij and Keita Balde recently, Liverpool are again said to be in talks with Lazio for their players.
According to Il Messaggero, the Reds have been in discussions with Lazio for their defensive pair Wallace and De Vrij with the Italians looking to sign Lucas Leiva this summer.
Though Lazio’s defensive record is not any better than Liverpool’s as they conceded 50-plus goals in each of their last two Serie A seasons, this is not the first time this summer we are being linked with the Italians’ defenders.
While Stefan de Vrij is already rumoured to be an alternative for the centre-back position, Brazilian Wallace is a new and a surprise name being linked the Reds. The defender, who was signed from SC Braga last summer for around €8m, made 25 Serie A appearances for the Italians last season and scored 1 goal and 1 assist.
Wallace, a former Cruzeiro player who spent two seasons on loan with Monaco before moving to Italy, has also been attracting interest from Real Madrid as a possible replacement for Pepe.
While it is still not clear whether Jurgen Klopp is ready to wait for Virgil van Dijk to force his way out of Southampton or the German is eyeing other options, Lazio’s interest in Lucas could have some substance in it.
Lucas has been attracting interest from Newcastle United, Premier League debutants Brighton and Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic lately. The 30-year-old was also a target for a few clubs from Turkey and Inter Milan last season and if the report is to be believed then Lazio could face a strong challenge from the Nerazzurri for the Brazilian.
