Former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy thinks that fans should not worry about Liverpool’s relative lack of transfer activity.
The Reds have signed Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke until now in the window but are seemingly still nowhere near acquiring top targets Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk.
While the former England international insists that improving the defence should be Jurgen Klopp’s priority this summer, he also believes that the Reds will have to wait until next month to get positive transfer results this summer.
“Unfortunately because of the way the window is set up, which is nonsensical as far as I am concerned, you know things now will happen mid to late August, ” Murphy told Sky Sports.
“So there is plenty of time. I wouldn’t be worrying if I was a Liverpool fan.”
Notably, Liverpool completed all of the major signings of last summer by July 23 but are finiding it very difficult to secure the transfer targets this year.
After coming back from holidays, Klopp too has insisted that the transfer window is tougher these days, especially in England, and we will have to wait for the right moments to make moves.
While both Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita are currently marked as not for sale by their respective clubs, there is still a plenty of time left for the Reds and the players to change Southampton’s and RB Leipzig’s rigid stance.
Meanwhile, it is rumoured that Emre Can’s contract situation will be sorted very soon and Juventus, who were strongly chasing the Germany midfielder, are said to have dropped their interest in the player for now in favour of cheaper targets.
Do you think the Reds will be able to secure both of their top targets this summer?
