Rafa Benitez is still keen to sign long-term target Sheyi Ojo on a season-long loan despite the Reds deciding to assess their youngsters during the upcoming pre-season games, according to ChronicleLive.
Jurgen Klopp is looking to test youngsters like Ojo and Gomez ahead of a very busy season before making any decision whether to keep them for the next term or send them on loan for regular game-time.
The Magpies are not the only club interested in signing Ojo for the next season as Burnley have also shown interest in the winger’s services but Benitez’s strong relations with the Reds could help him land the 20-year-old.
While Ojo’s new Liverpool teammate Dominic Solanke won the Golden Ball as England won their first U-20 World Cup recently, the former MK Dons winger made his contributions by mostly coming on as a substitute. Ojo missed most of the last season due to a back fracture he sustained during the Reds pre-season tour of the US last summer.
It was reported recently that former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants Harry Wilson at Celtic but the Reds have rejected the Northern Irishman’s advances for the in-form Wales youngster.
The recent big money arrival of Mohamed Salah means Jurgen Klopp is expected to send at least two out of Ojo, Wilson and Kent out on loan for the next season.
Liverpool suffered a lot during the last campaign due to our poor squad depth and the Reds will carefully need to estimate which youngsters can help us in a far tougher next season.
Do you think young players like Ojo, Wilson and Gomez can make an impact at Liverpool next season?
