Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has sent a warning to Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain that the England international should leave the Gunners if he doesn’t intend to become a bit-part player like his teammate Theo Walcott.
“This is a boy who has been out of the side for I don’t know how many years,” Thompson said on Sky Sports.
“He’s never going to hold down a regular place there. Does he want to be like Walcott?”
Arsenal are highly likely to miss out on Champions League qualification for the next season which could make a host of stars leave the North London club this summer, including Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez.
The Gunners are eager to offer Oxlade-Chamberlain a new lucrative deal to keep him away from his suitors and it is rumoured that the midfielder will wait for the offer before he makes the decision regarding his future.
The 23-year-old, who is again out injured after pulling his hamstring against Southampton last week, is said to be considering a switch to Anfield in order to play in his most favoured position, that is the central midfield.
Liverpool would know that there might be a possibility of the player using their interest to get better terms in his renewal and the Reds are also looking at other options as Mohamed Salah of Roma said to be one of the alternatives.
Do you think we should sign Oxlade-Chamberlain whose senior career has been mostly marred by injuries?
