Since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at Liverpool, the Reds have been linked with a number of players from Bundesliga giants Schalke. While Joel Matip was signed for free last summer, Liverpool are reportedly eyeing another raid on Schalke this summer and probably for more than one player.
Schalke are currently 11th in the Bundesliga standings and are very unlikely to finish in the top four this season, which means a number of their stars could leave in the summer in search of Champions League football.
One Schalke star who has been attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, is 22-year-old midfielder Leon Goretzka.
The Germany International is a box to box midfielder but can also play as a number 6. In the 36 appearances made so far this season for Schalke, Goretzka has scored 5 goals and assisted 2.
It was reported by Sport Bild and Kicker last month that Liverpool are one of the highly interested parties for the midfielder’s signature.
While it has emerged lately that Jurgen Klopp has turned his focus towards RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita, Calciomercato.com’s Fabrizio Romano is now reporting that Italian giants Juventus have joined the long list of Goretzka’s suitors.
Sami Khedira is most likely to leave for the MLS this summer and the Seria A giants are looking for an able replacement. After losing out on Dahoud to BVB, the Italians have turned their attention towards the Schalke midfielder.
Goretzka, who is also attracting interest from Bayern Munich and Arsenal, will have just one year remaining on his contract with Schalke by the end of the season and has a market value of around €30m.
While it is too early to guess Goretzka’s next destination, the midfielder is one of the top talents in Bundesliga and would definitely improve the Reds squad, if signed.
Max Meyer is another top talent from Schalke who has been linked with the Reds recently.
Who would you sign this summer – Keita or Goretzka?
